Things to do in Turkey

With the danger of the state of emergency past, very few visitors to Turkey and the very favourable exchange rate between the USD/AUD & the Turkish Lira there has never been a better time to visit Turkey. This is a place very close to my heart, after all I used to live there, and it was where I landed my very first tour leading job. These are some of my top recommendations.

Egypt: The Road Less Traveled

Egypt. The Pyramids. The reason most tourists visit this stunning country, however if you’re like me and want to travel to some of the lesser known sights in this spectacular country I’ve compiled a list of some of the best ones to visit. The may take a little more time and effort, but trust me they are well worth it.

The Silk Road Compendium

Herein contains a series of blogs about one of the World's 7 Epic Journeys. This is a detailed account of how to cross one of the oldest trade routes on the planet in today's modern age. When the route was first founded, it took two years to cross on a camel, however now it can be done in just under a month - with many different paths and stops along the way, where will the Silk Road take you?

This is a series that is just beginning, starting out at the Eastern Terminus - China. We will cross the Silk Road together, through China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Armenia, Georgia and Turkey in the next few months of blog posts. Hopefully, once this collection is complete it will service as a complete guide to traversing this particular path of the Silk Road

Wow what a country! This has got to be one of my favorite up and coming destinations. Get here before people start figuring it out!

This a really remote, underrated, amazing place - a bit like Mongolia, well before Mongolia became commercialized. "Mongolia is commercialized?" I hear you say, well compared to Kyrgyzstan it is. If you want an authentic experience, if you want to feel welcome, if you want to feel like you're in the last wilderness, but still want to feel completely safe, then Kyrgyzstan is for you.

I stayed in just about every room category, from the leading in deluxe room to the suite lower lumbung with the outside bathroom. While all room types are lovely I would recommend paying roughly the extra $50AUD and upgrading to the suite. That being said, you can be assured that the lead in deluxe room is still lovely.

Breakfast is always included in the rate, which is something I love, there is nothing more annoying than having to get up and hunt down breakfast, and even though I would describe this place as "cheap" as far as room rates go, the breakfast is amazing. Not just pastries, but a wide variety of cooked options, which changes daily Read more...
